UA Journalism Project Enters Fourth Year

The fourth annual Lemke Journalism Project began Feb. 5 at the University of Arkansas and will continue until March 12.

The project is a series of workshops for high school students from Northwest Arkansas who are interested in writing about diversity issues. The students will publish their own newspaper at the end of the workshop.

The project is sponsored by the UA’s Walter J. Lemke Department of Journalism It is being funded by The Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation and The Morning News.

Katherine Shurlds, a UA journalism instructor, is the project director. Special guests for two of the workshops will include Gilbert Bailon, vice president and executive editor at The Dallas Morning News, and Sergio Bustos of Washington D.C., a correspondent for Gannett News Service.
