AWG Walkers Have a Heart

Like many established companies, Arkansas Western Gas Co. faces an aging work force. That’s one reason Terry England, AWG’s director of customer service, said the firm’s employees have gotten behind the American Heart Association’s Northwest Arkansas Heart Walk.

“We have had a number of our people in our organization who have had heart-related problems or family members who have,” England said. “Our people also know this is a good chance to get the word about heart disease out to help people plan a better quality of life for themselves and their families. That’s what we’re all about.”

The fund-raising event will be held on April 2 at Walton Arena in Fayetteville. AWG is one of about 40 local companies expected to field corporate teams again this year. The AWG team includes other sister subsidiaries of Southwestern Energy Co.

England said the company hopes to have 60 walkers this year who will raise a combined $12,000. Last year about 2,000 Heart Walk participants brought in $221,000 overall, and this year’s total goal is $250,000.
