Arkansas Housing Starts Lag in Seven-state Region

In the third quarter of 2004, which ended Sept. 30, Arkansas was No. 5 out of seven regional states in housing permits. The state fell 3 percent behind the U.S. average in percent change and was 1.8 percent lower than the regional mean.
Arkansas showed 7.1 percent change for the quarter.
Permits in the “Natural State” were down 2.8 percent for the third quarter of 2004 compared with 2003’s 9.9 percent.
Overall, Arkansas housing permits are trending downward from the most recent highest percent change of 24.4 in the second quarter of 2002.
The seven-state regional mean was an 8.9 percent positive change.
The United States Federal Reserve published the third-quarter numbers in the January issue of The Regional Economist, a quarterly banking magazine.
The area is a regional designation of the Eighth Federal Reserve District in St. Louis.
