Nexstar Completes $17M KNWA Buy
After more than a year, the sale of KNWA was completed on Jan. 7, said Sean Bateman, promotions manager for the Fayetteville television station.
Nexstar Broadcasting Group of Irving, Texas, bought the NBC affiliate from JDG Television Inc. of Muskogee, Okla. According to Nexstar’s 2003 annual report to the Securities and Exchange Commission, the companies agreed to a $17 million deal for KNWA. The sale had been pending FCC approval. Nexstar has been operating the station since October 2003.
In August, Nexstar changed the station’s name and call letters from NBC 24/51, KPOM/KFAA-TV, to KNWA.
Upon completion of all pending transactions, Nexstar will own, operate, program or provide sales and other services to 46 television stations in 27 markets. Nexstar owns one other Arkansas station, KARK, the NBC affiliate in Little Rock.
