Scott Harris grew tired of hauling his children around Northwest Arkansas, sometimes having to choose which child’s game to attend. That irritation and his love for basketball led him to develop and open the All Star Sports Arena in Springdale with the help of his wife and his father.

The 130,000 SF arena includes multiple basketball, soccer and volleyball courts, a fitness center, and facilities for cheerleading and dance classes that include special spring flooring. A number of sports tournaments have already been held at the arena.

All Star’s income is generated through team fees, membership to the fitness center, classes, sports camps, tournaments, concessions, etc.

The facilities include six hardwood, self contained basketball courts, and four dedicated full-size volleyball courts.

There are also two indoor soccer/flag football fields; fitness center equipped with strength, cardiovascular and sport training equipment; Cheer Unlimited Cheerleading Academy; Studio 54 dance studio; conference rooms; video arcade; concessions with eating/viewing area; an in-house massage therapist; and seating for spectators and professional scoreboards on each court.

Harris has 20 employees. He expects to add another 15 employees in the coming year.

Through an agreement with First Baptist Church of Springdale, Harris built the arena on seven acres owned by the church. In return, the church, particularly its private school, Shiloh Christian, uses the facilities for some physical education classes.

Harris said it will take about five years for the arena to begin making a good profit. He declined to say what the startup costs were for the business.
