Tyson Foods Plans Maine Plant Closure
Tyson Foods Inc. announced in early December that it will close Jordan’s Meats, a major Portland, Maine, employer for more than 40 years with 285 jobs.
The Springdale meat producer said the 65,000-SF plant it acquired three years ago will close Feb. 1.
“From a human standpoint, this is a very difficult decision, since it affects the lives of our team members and their families,” said John Lea, Tyson Foods’ vice president of consumer products in a prepared statement. “However, we have evaluated every possible economic scenario for this facility and because of its age, layout, proximity to raw materials and downtown location, it simply does not make sense for us to reinvest in it.”
