Sheriff Moses Commands Happy Birthday

A lawsuit ended former Benton County sheriff Andy Lee’s stint as Moses in the late 1990s, but he got a chance for a repeat performance recently when he popped out of a big birthday cake holding the Ten Commandments in humorous celebration of lawyer Doug Norwood’s 50th birthday.

Norwood successfully limited Lee’s use of the Ten Commandments when the Benton County Jail opened in 1999. A federal judge ruled in Norwood’s favor, stating that use of the Commandments as rules for the inmates was a violation of the separation of church and state.
