Stephen Butler also said he is spending about $150,000 to increase the strength of two of the AM stations owned by his Butler Broadcasting Co. The deal is awaiting approval from the Federal Communications Commission.

The talk radio stations, KFFK-AM 1390 of Rogers, and KREB-AM 1190 “The Fan” in Bentonville, are the local ESPN affiliates.

KREB-AM is a 2.5-kilowatt station that Butler plans to upgrade to five kilowatts. KFFK’s signal will be increased from one to five kilowatts.

Butler said the stations’ current geographic reach is south to the Bobby Hopper Tunnel on as Interstate 540 and north halfway to Joplin, Mo. The new strength would stretch the local ESPN affiliates from Interstate 40 to Joplin, he said.
