Arkansas was up slightly for total nonagricultural jobs for the first quarter of 2004 compared to the first quarter of 2003.

Statewide, nonfarm employment was up three-tenths of a percent for the quarter, on par with two-tenths for the country and three-tenths for the Eighth District of the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank in St. Louis, which takes in portions of seven states.

The Fed published the first-quarter numbers in the July issue of The Regional Economist quarterly banking magazine.

Arkansas showed significant growth in the first quarter in the education and health services sector with positive 2.5 percent change, compared to the U.S. mean of 1.9 percent change.

Arkansas’ largest lag was in manufacturing jobs, with a negative 2.4 percent change.
