At least 10 of Siloam Springs’ largest companies plan to field corporate teams for the city’s first American Heart Association Heart Walk. The event will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the La-Z-Boy Sports Complex in Siloam Springs.

Cindy Hudlow, AHA’s metro director for Northwest Arkansas, said the nonprofit decided to start a second event to compliment the Northwest Arkansas Heart Walk held each April and that it was the best way to serve Siloam Springs’ large workforce.

“We felt like it was a bit of a geographic challenge for some of them to get to the spring walk and wanted to give them a chance to participate and help promote heart health,” Hudlow said.

The inaugural event’s first year fundraising goal is $35,000.

Dennis Padgett, world human resources director for Cobb Vantress Inc., said his firm got involved right away because promoting healthy lifestyles is part of its corporate culture.

Eight cardiovascular disease research projects in Arkansas received $1.2 million in AHA funding this year. CVD claimed 959,000 lives last year and cost Americans an estimated $368 billion.
