Wilma Bulin has been cleaning houses for more than 20 years, but now she’s launched her own business with the help of partner Debbie Smith. Smith called herself “the new kid,” but said Bulin has done a fine job of teaching her the ropes of “top-to-bottom cleaning.”

The two launched House Cleaning Plus Inc. in February and are now busy with more than 60 clients under their apron strings.

They do residential cleaning, but they’re also carving out a niche for cleaning newly constructed homes thanks to a few key contacts with local contractors. The two have one part-time employee helping them now, but in coming months they may add as many as five additional employees.

“We plan to build it to where it’s kind of like a Merry Maid’s but a lot more thorough,” Smith said. “We go well beyond just coming in to tidy up. We do a top-to-bottom clean. We do what you would do if you had the time.”

House Cleaning Plus doesn’t charge by the hour, but bids its cleaning jobs. Smith and Bulin are operating their business out of their homes.

Smith said they took out a small business loan to launch the cleaning service, but they plan to have that paid back within a year.

The business is already making a small profit, in addition to paying the bills and providing salaries for Smith and Bulin, Smith said.
