The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and The Morning News counted some circulation outside Northwest Arkansas in the totals provided to the Audit Bureau of Circulations. That’s fine with ABC. But to keep things from getting confusing, we’ll continue to report what the D-G reports as circulation in Washington, Benton, Carroll and Madison counties as comparing to that of The Morning News, even though some of those newspapers (in both cases) were sold outside that area.

To be exact, the D-G reported to ABC that, for the six months ended March 31, it counted 405 Sunday subscriptions that were mailed out of the area and 212 in single-copy sales in Oklahoma near Siloam Springs. All of those newspapers were in the category listed as Benton County.

The Morning News, on the other hand, had 222 daily and 286 Sunday circulation across the state line into Missouri, said Lewis Floyd, circulation director.

For the four-county area, the D-G’s daily circulation increased by 1,625, from 32,909 to 34,527, and by 444 on Sundays from 44,037 to 44,481. The Morning News’ circulation increased by 24 on weekdays, from 38,251 to 38,275 and by three on Sundays, from 41,451 to 41,448.
