Morning News: I?ll Take a Bible and Box of Bullets (Outtakes Opinion)

We thought The Morning News had a good idea when it recently started offering a coupon for something free every day on the front of the classified section.

The “classified clipper” ads usually feature something like a free cherry limeade at Sonic or a two-liter bottle of Coke from a local grocery store. One day, it was a free Bible from South Hill Street Church of Christ.

So we were a little surprised when we opened the newspaper on March 2 and saw the coupon of the day was for a free “box of Blazer .22 shells” from Rebel Arms & Sporting Goods of Springdale. The ad said, “Must be 18 or older.”

We can’t help wondering if the newspaper would be liable if any of those free bullets were involved in an accident. Just to be safe, we think The Morning News should stick to giving away limeades and Bibles.
