Discount Date

We knew Wal-Mart was expanding into banking, but we were surprised to find the retail giant is also dabbling in dating services.

The bulletin board in the lobby of the Wal-Mart Supercenter in north Fayetteville recently contained a small piece of neon yellow poster board advertising for a date for a “single white male.”

Paul Couey, assistant store manager, said people who want to post something on the bulletin board are supposed to check with the management. Requests for dates aren’t something management would approve of, he added as he removed the notice from the bulletin board.

The Springdale man who posted the notice said he’s had little response anyway, although he posted it about a week earlier. He actually posted the notices at both Fayetteville Supercenters and those in Springdale and Rogers.

The man said he doesn’t like bars or dating services. Instead, he has “hung out” at Wal-Mart trying to meet single women, but that didn’t work either. After all, he said, “you can get everything else at Wal-Mart.”
