Forty Under 40: Janine R. Covington
Janine Covington was raised in the family business. The work ethic of her parents contributed to her drive for success, but when she was younger she had no desire to make a career out of DECCO Contractors-Paving Inc. n”I didn’t want to be pigeonholed into that business,” Covington said. “I wanted to try some other avenues.”nAfter graduating from Rogers High School, she earned a degree in education at the University of Arkansas. Covington then taught for nearly six years, starting out in the Bentonville School District and then moving on to Little Rock for four years. nCovington loved teaching and likely would have continued in education, but her desire to experience different things and needs of the family business called her away in 2001. She’s enjoying serving as vice president of the paving contracting business, but she’s hoping in coming years to learn a little more about different aspects of that sector. Covington said she’d like to know more about how the jobs come together and more about the job estimation process. nCovington occasionally coaches youth softball and rides her Indian Scout motorcycle.nAdvice she’d give other professionals just starting out “Know your weaknesses, know your strengths.”
