Tyson Announces Wellness Office
Tyson Foods Inc. announced on Nov. 21 the formalization of an official Office of Animal Well-Being headed by veterinarian and animal welfare expert Kellye Pfalzgraf. The office, in charge of ensuring compliance with the National Chicken Council’s animal welfare guidelines and the American Meat Institute guidelines, will oversee animal treatment and handling at Tyson’s chicken, beef and pork facilities. The office will also coordinate the inspections of Tyson facilities and promote appropriate animal handling.r
Pfalzgraf has 23 years of experience in food animal veterinary practice and served as a Veterinary Medical Officer for USDA-FSIS in a pork slaughter facility.r
