Graduates of the University of Arkansas law school, Charles and Diana Duell believe that experience in both life and law has made them successful. Charles Duell, a former Benton County chief public defender, and Diana Duell, a lawyer and registered nurse, recently combined and relocated their practices to historic downtown Fayetteville.

Married for 19 years, the duo personally oversaw the renovation and construction that continues on their Mountain Street offices. When asked how they fare working together, the Duells said it’s working so far.

Licensed in both Arkansas and Oklahoma, Charles Duell primarily deals in criminal law but also accepts cases in civil litigation, domestic relations and personal injury. He is also a death penalty qualified lawyer. With high case success and local experience, he said he sees no real need for heavy advertising.

Diana Duell, a retired colonel from the United States Army reserves, has found that there are medical elements in many criminal cases. Her nursing background becomes a valuable resource to her husband when he deals with criminal and personal injury issues.

“We act as sounding boards for each other,” she said.

Due to her military and nursing background, she finds it easy to understand how potential jurors think.

The couple has no immediate plans to bring partners into their firm. Their focus will be on completing the building while taking on new cases. Their financing was provided locally by Arkansas National Bank.

The Duells declined to disclose their startup costs. But they have completely renovated half of their 4,200-SF office space.
