Cary Tobey, creative director and owner of a new video production company in Fayetteville, has 15 years of experience on both sides of the camera. Tobey is a former sports anchor for both KHOG/KHBS, Channels 40/29, and KFSM-TV, Channel 5, and served as promotions manager for NBC 24/51, KPOM/KFAA. He also shared ownership in a video production company for the past seven years. The desire to do his own thing and live in Northwest Arkansas brought him to Fayetteville’s Colt Square.
“I love working with video, and doing it this way, I’ll have more creative freedom,” Tobey said.
Lucid Moon Productions specializes in corporate training and sales videos as well as commercials. The company can use standard video or 24p — an industry term referring to 24 progressive-scan technology. George Lucas used the technology to shoot “Attack of the Clones” and doesn’t plan to go back to film, Tobey said.
The quality of 24p is similar to film, but it’s available at video prices, he noted.
Lucid Moon has hired one assistant, but Tobey said he hopes to hire as many as three more staff members by the end of the year — a graphics designer and a couple of technicians.
Lucid Moon has 1,200 SF. Tobey and his wife, Cheryl, have invested an estimated $75,000 to start the new video production business. They hope to get a return on the investment within the first two years of operation.
“That may be a little optimistic, but we think we can do it,” he said.
