The Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies at NorthWest Arkansas Community College is expected to be complete July 1.

The 44,000-SF building is being constructed by Oakridge Builders Inc. for $4.5 million. Retired Wal-Mart executive Jack Shewmaker contributed $1 million toward the center’s development and received the honor of sharing his name with it. Another million was contributed by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. The remainder came from the sale of bonds.

NWACC’s work force development programs on retail business, manufacturing and immigrant workforce issues are expected to expand with the new building, said Mary Ann Shope, dean of workforce development for the college.
