More than 600 participants are expected to take up bowling this year for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Arkansas and do some corporate team building in the process.

This is the eighth year for Bowl For Kids’ Sake and the most aggressive campaign to date with a goal of $225,000, said Angela Norwood, development director for the nonprofit group.

The organization plans to increase the number of children it serves locally from 500 annually to 2,200 by 2010. Funds raised this year will help the agency match a $75,000 challenge grant recently awarded by the Walton Family Foundation.

Nearly $60,000 has been raised through corporate sponsorship, and about 20 corporate events have been scheduled through August.

Local stockbrokers raised $6,000 while bowling March 6 at Ozark Lanes in Fayetteville and challenging each other to raise funds. Teams came from Stephens Inc., Morgan Stanley, AG Edwards, Merrill Lynch and Garner Asset Management.
