Forty Under 40: Derrick Gragg
Derrick Gragg, 33, became the second-highest ranking member of the University of Arkansas athletic department in July. He supervises Razorbacks marketing and sports information, spring sports, spirit squads and the strength and conditioning program.
A native of Huntsville, Ala., Gragg played wide receiver for Vanderbilt University from 1988-91 while earning a bachelors degree in human development in 1992.
He earned a masters in sports administration in 1999 from Wayne State University in Detroit.
From 1993-95, he served as an academic counselor for Vanderbilts football team. He was later promoted to director of student life.
After a two-year stint as director of compliance and operations at the University of Missouri, Gragg became assistant athletic director for compliance at the University of Michigan (1997-2000) before joining the Hogs.
Gragg is on the NCAAs Minority Opportunities & Interests Committee and the UA Black Alumni Society board of directors.
He is a member of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and the Black Coaches Association.
