M. Karla Byerly has opened a business bringing Spanish-speaking television to Northwest Arkansas’ Hispanic population. Byerly said the business sold four satellite-dish packages on its first day of operation. She believes she’ll make the $7,000 she’s invested in Dish Network systems back within months.

Byerly said Galvan’s Digital Systems is named for her father Antonio Galvan, who works with her installing the satellite dishes. The company offers the Dish Network, which consists of 150 channels, many of them for Spanish-speaking audiences.

A basic system with one television hookup costs $149 and includes a standard size satellite dish.

Byerly said the type of programming wanted determines the monthly cost. The basic programming package is $22.99 a month, and the biggest programming package with all 150 channels is $40.99 a month.

“We decided to come here because Rogers is a good size city, it’s growing and it has a [large] Hispanic population,” she said.

Byerly’s father had been working in Fort Smith for a satellite provider when he decided to help her start her own business. They moved to Rogers this fall from Heavener, Okla.

She hopes to add a few more members of the family to her staff in coming weeks as more settle in Rogers.
