Construction to Begin on George Junior High

The Springdale School District on Dec. 3 purchased a building permit valued at $9.59 million to build a new junior high school that is scheduled to be open for the fall semester of 2004.

George Junior High will be located on South Powell Street, just south of George Elementary. The Gene George family Springdale donated 43 acres for the new school.

Springdale plans to build four new elementary schools, one middle school, one junior high and a new high school by 2010. East Elementary opened this year.

The new junior high will be 187,896 SF.

Crossland Construction Co. of Rogers is the general contractor on the project.

Hospital to Renovate Surgical Department

Northwest Medical Center on Oct. 9 purchased a building permit valued at $1.1 million so its Springdale facility’s surgery department could undergo several renovations.

Northwest Medical Center will have both cosmetic and physical changes to the surgical area, including new flooring, wall painting and cabinetry. The surgery department has four operating rooms and one urology room. The hospital is located at 609 W. Maple Ave.

Commerce Construction Co. of Springdale is the general contractor on the project, which will not include an addition or decrease in total SF.

A fully accredited hospital, Northwest Medical Center has an annual operating budget of $74.4 million. It has 222 patient beds.

On July 7, Northwest Medical Center began a $400,000 renovation of its surgical prep unit.

Central Redi-Mix Ready for New Office

Buildings Inc. of Springdale on Dec. 4 purchased a building permit valued at $389,511 to build a new office for Central Redi-Mix in north Springdale.

The 5,680-SF office will be at 4530 N. Oak St., off Arkansas Highway 264 east.

Clay Olden is general manager of Central Redi-Mix, which is owned by J.B. Hunt and Tim Graham.
