The willingness to try new things can help a junior executive’s career prospects, a new survey conducted by Accountemps said. More than 35 percent of the 1,400 chief financial officers surveyed across the nation said embracing change “is a critical success factor for employees.”

Another 27 percent feel a desire to learn new skills is the most valuable characteristic.

Accountemps, which operates a large Fayetteville office, is a subsidiary of Robert Half International in Menlo Park, Calif. The staffing agency has more than 325 offices throughout North America, Europe and Australia.

All of the companies surveyed by Accountemps had at least 20 employees.

“Companies must constantly reinvent themselves to remain competitive in today’s business environment, and employees need to respond accordingly,” said Max Messmer, chairman of Accountemps and author of “Managing Your Career For Dummies.”
