Things are staying busy at Northwest Arkansas’ largest and most profitable hospital.

St. Edward Mercy Health Network in Fort Smith, which had $285 million in 2000 revenue, recently made three executive appointments. The changes come in the wake of a $70 million expansion that gave the hospital a 55,488-SF St. Edward Heart Center, 77,997-SF St. Edward Outpatient Center and 40,525-SF St. Edward Women’s Center.

The network is the umbrella for St. Edward Mercy Medical Center.

Doug Gautier was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer of the network.

Formerly senior vice president, Gautier will oversee daily operations and will be responsible for the organization’s facilities and staff.

St. Edward Mercy also named Terry Lynn Smith as coordinator for women’s services.

Formerly director of the Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House, Smith will oversee community service programs and all services for women.

Mark Rumsey was appointed to the St. Edward Mercy Medical Center board of trustees July 25.

He is president of Zero Mountain Inc., which has cold-storage operations in Fort Smith, Johnson, Lowell and Russellville.

The network serves more than 75,000 people in the Fort Smith area and 430,000 in its 14-county service area. With about 350 beds, the hospital netted $9.7 million in 2000 —?the last year for which Arkansas hospital financial information is available.
