Goshen Golf Saga Continues

Dreams of The Club on the River have washed away, but there is still talk — again — of a future golf course community in Goshen.

The seemingly never-ending saga of what will happen with Ronny Hissom’s Circle H Farm just west of Goshen’s twin bridges may be taking another route.

Gary Combs is back in as a possible developer of the area.

There have been several different groups that have made plans at one time or another for a golf course community on the land. Most recently, Fayetteville real estate giant Jim Lindsey had even mapped out the course and lots. But the inability to pre-sell 100 lots by March 15 ended that possibility. We heard only about 20 lots were pre-sold on a conditional basis. Lindsey had done an extensive mail advertising campaign, complete with John Daly plugging the course.

Combs had planned a project with more than 300 homes and 100 condominiums, complete with an 18-hole course, before pulling out in May of 2000. At that point, Hissom attracted the interest of Pro Star Golf Group of Hilton Head, S.C., for the project. Plans for the $7 million project were later thwarted. The course would have been called Riverwood Country Club.

When asked if he was once again involved in the project, Combs just said “I might be.”
