D-G Too Good for Arkansas ‘Journliasts’?
We know a woman who received a master’s degree in May from the University of Arkansas’ journalism department and applied for a job as a reporter with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
She received a rejection letter from the “manager of editorial recruitment” in Little Rock saying: “We always enjoy hearing from local journliasts.” The letter went on about the “very stiff” competition for jobs at a paper the size of the D-G.
The applicant thought the letter implied that the newspaper was too good to hire journalists from Arkansas. We thought it was interesting that the D-G representative misspelled the word “journalists.”
If the D-G has become too good to hire reporters from Arkansas, perhaps the newspaper should move to another state. The D-G apparently doesn’t know what county it’s in anyway.
