The Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport in Highfill announced on July 15 that Continental Express already has begun selling tickets for a new flight to Houston. Service will begin to and from XNA to the George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Oct. 1.

The direct service flight will take only 83 minutes. Kelly Johnson, director of XNA, said a flight to Houston previously took a minimum of three and a half hours because passengers had to fly to another city and catch a connecting flight to Houston.

“[Continental] has more service into Mexico than any other domestic carriers,” Johnson said.

Phil Mayo, owner of Around the World Travel in Springdale, said the flight will be a great asset for Northwest Arkansas travelers.

“It’s great for us from the standpoint of the access into Mexico and the Caribbean,” Mayo said.

Continental and Northwest Airlines have a working agreement and will share a counter at XNA. The two airlines will also share frequent-flier points.
