Torres Opening Three Restaurants

Arturo Torres opened a Mexican restaurant in Fayetteville on June 8 and plans to open one in Gravette next month.

Torres opened his first restaurant in Lowell in February.

All of the restaurants have the same name but with a different numerical designation. Casa Torres, La Fonda #1 is in Lowell. The Fayetteville eatery is #3, and the Gravette restaurant will be #2. (The Gravette eatery’s number is out of sequence because its opening date was postponed.)

The Fayetteville restaurant is in the 4,500-SF building at 1673 N. College Ave. that for years housed The Dome Grill & Bar. The Dome closed in December, and for a short while in January the building was home to Gonzalez Mexican Restaurant.

Torres said his restaurants are different from other Mexican restaurants in the area because he specializes in the traditional cuisine of Mexico City, where he lived 15 years ago.

One such dish is the “Huarache” ($4.50), which consists of a homemade tortilla served with beans, lettuce, onions, fresh Mexican cheese, green salsa and a choice of pork steak, beef steak or chicken.

All lunch specials at Torres’ restaurants are $4, which includes rice, beans and a soft drink. The most expensive item on the dinner menu is the Cuban sandwich at $6.

Torres said the Fayetteville restaurant will be open seven days a week.
