Macomber?s Closes After Five-Year Mark
Joe and Dina Trimble closed Macomber’s Restaurant on May 31 after five years in business.
The restaurant, at 130 W. Emma Ave., was a focal point after the renovation of several downtown Springdale buildings.
Dina Trimble said she was ready to leave the restaurant business.
“I can’t keep working 14 hours a day,” she said. “It was doing well. Had I wanted to stick it out, [I could have].”
Trimble said construction on Emma Avenue last summer hurt business because it was difficult for customers to find a place to park. Also, “9-11 affected everybody,” she said.
The Trimbles helped renovate the building and opened the restaurant on May 7, 1997.
After two years in which both Joe and Dina worked at the restaurant, Joe Trimble took a job with Transplace in Springdale. Dina stayed at the restaurant for the remaining three years.
“We were both experimenting,” she said. “Neither of us had ever done that … Springdale needed that [restaurant]. They really did.”
Dina Trimble said she plans to spend the summer with her children.
“This fall, I’m thinking about getting certified in secondary education to maybe do some teaching,” she said. “Joe is going to stay with Transplace.”
Tom Stephens, who owns the 2,000-SF building that housed Macomber’s and another half dozen buildings on Emma, is looking for a new tenant. Stephens said he would also consider selling the restaurant building. The asking price has been $110,000. He said that’s about $15,000 below the appraised value.
