In May, Cingular started offering its Interactive Messenger Plus service to Northwest Arkansas. Interactive-pagers, or I-pagers, let users send and receive text messages of up to 16,000 characters between two Cingular-enabled data-only wireless handheld devices. Internet e-mail and messages to faxes and phones are also possible.
The service can use several different data-only devices (DODs) such as the Research In Motion (RIM) 950 or 957 models. The DODs have larger screens than traditional pagers. Monthly fees range from $17-$30.
I-pagers are billed as the way to keep a business team working together even when it’s not together. They also eliminate pesky cell phone rings during meetings and allow greater potential for multiple communications.
Cingular already has more than 730,000 I-pager subscribers nationwide.
