Treats Close All Three Schlegel?s Bagels
Ronnie and Leslie Treat of Springdale have closed all three of their Schlegel’s Bagel Cafes.
“Panera Bread opened up,” Ronie Treat said. “It’s one of those things. We just had to get out.”
Ronie Treat, who is grocery manager at Price Cutter Food Warehouse in Springdale, said the cafe at 2901 E. Zion Road in Fayetteville was closed “several weeks ago.”
The stores at 128 S. 2nd St. in Rogers and 2418 N. Gregg Ave. in Fayetteville were closed in mid-March.
The Treats purchased the three cafes from Ben and Sylvia Schlegel of Fayetteville in March 2000.
By that time, the Schlegels had already sold two of their bagel cafes — one in Bentonville and one on the downtown Fayetteville square.
When the Treats bought the remaining three, Leslie Treat said Schlegel’s cooked about 3,600 bagels a day at its location on Zion Road. The bagels were sold through the three Schlegel’s locations as well as to other bagel shops in the area.
