About 53 percent of leadership positions in corporate information-technology divisions are filled by existing employees, a national survey recently conducted by Robert Half International Consulting Inc. found.

An IT staffing supplier, RHI is based in Menlo Park, Calif., and has more than 100 offices in Europe, Australia and North America, including a large operation in Fayetteville.

The poll included responses from more than 1,400 chief information officers identified by a stratified random sample of U.S. companies. A minimum of 100 employees was required for inclusion.

One in three respondents said that 90 percent of the technology leadership positions at their firms were filled internally. Katherine Spencer Lee, RHI’s executive director, said in a release that technology training and subsequent responsibilities can help retain talented employees.
