Friends Trecia McClain and Donna Moten split the duties of running their new sign shop, Sign Language Inc. McClain provides creativity by designing and producing art for signs, banners and other graphics. Moten is the office manager.

The business partners used $20,000-$40,000 to open the venture in Springdale, McClain said. That initial cost included the computers and software needed to develop a logo concept into a printed project. McClain uses programs called Flexisign and Corel.

Excluding a few larger printing jobs which must be outsourced, Sign Language produces 95 percent of its customer orders in-house.

Moten and McClain want to target corporate clients in the area, and McClain said the shop had a solid customer base when it opened. She worked in Northwest Arkansas sign shops for 10 years before opening her own business with Moten.
