Salon Blais owner Belinda Booth opened her new spa in time for Valentine’s Day, and the body shop sold $5,000 in gift certificates for the holiday. The certificates were sold for pedicures, facials, massages, body wraps and scrubs, waxing, hair cuts and colors.
Booth said Salon Blais targets a more sophisticated crowd and already draws high-profile clients, including television news anchors and local executives. The spa’s seven employees, most of whom are in their early 30s, each brought a client base from previous work in the area.
Booth attended school for manicures and pedicures, and she worked for other salons for six and a half years before opening her own shop. She also employs three licensed massage therapists and two licensed cosmetologists. Employees work on commission, and Salon Blais equips the staff with necessary supplies.
The 1,800-SF shop, which is titled after her maiden name Blais, cost about $45,000 to open, Booth said.
