Peterson Produces Chickens Galore
Peterson Farms Inc. processes about 1.4 million broilers per week, and it sets, when at full capacity, more than 1.5 million eggs per week. Its broiler hatchers are derived from the Peterson Male and the Cobb-Vantress (Siloam Springs) Female.
The company has a deboning facility in Rogers and a kill plant in Decatur along with its three hatcheries (two broiler and one breeder). There are actually two other hatcheries not currently in operation, one in Cullman, Ala., and the other in Trion, Ga.
Peterson became the first primary breeder company in the United States to have a PCR lab. It studies the Avian Coccidiosis disease.
There is a state-of-the-art feed mill in Decatur that produces 13,000 tons of finished feed a week. That plant also manufactures feed for George’s Inc. of Springdale and Simmons Foods of Siloam Springs.
Peterson’s food service supplies what the company calls casual dining for such restaurants as the Appleby’s, Outback Steakhouse and Macaroni Grill chains. It also does marinating.
“Leg quarters are where we really need to focus and be more progressive,” Kinyon said. “We still ship most of that outside of the U.S.”
