Employees at Ayrshire Electronics have personal reasons for taking part in the American Heart Association’s annual heart walk. In July, 49-year-old Garon Martin died of a massive second heart attack after 21 years of service with Ayrshire.

This year, four teams of 10 Ayrshire employees will walk in the AHA’s fund-raising event.

One team will bear Martin’s name, and the other three will wear the names of co-workers who now live with heart conditions.

Together, the teams plan to raise $4,000 for the AHA through donations and traditional moneymakers such as bake sales and car washes, said Ayrshire human resource representative Paula Bradshaw.

Ayrshire assembles electronic circuit boards, is headquartered in Fayetteville and employs 298 people, 220 of whom are assembly-line employees. Bradshaw said several cardiopulmonary-resuscitation and first-aid trained individuals work at the plant.
