David and Nancy Bristow stock the shelves of their new discount store, Bristow Liquidations Inc., with items they buy in bulk from retailers such as Sears, J.C. Penney and Service Merchandise. Products the Bristows buy from the big-name stores usually have been discontinued or returned by customers.

Goods are sold in the 6,250-SF shop for less than 50 percent of the original store’s retail price, said David Bristow, president of Bristow Liquidations. His wife Nancy Bristow serves as secretary and treasurer.

Currently, the store carries a line of lawn furniture that was pulled from a Sears showroom in Canada and various house wares from J.C. Penney.

David Bristow said opening the discount store was not capital intensive. He used $30,000-$40,000 in loans to launch the business. The Bristows also own the Motor Inn in Springdale, a motor park that David Bristow bought in 1983. A manager operates the Motor Inn for Bristow.

Before opening Bristow Liquidations, David Bristow worked in Little Rock as a risk manager for Mail Contractors of America, which hauls parcels for the United States Postal Service.
