To replace Lisa Thompson, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette hired Stephen Caldwell as city editor. Caldwell was scheduled to begin work at the D-G on Feb. 1.

A former assistant sports editor for the D-G, Caldwell had already been writing a weekly column on fatherhood for the D-G’s Style section. Caldwell worked in the D-G’s sports department from 1984-1998.

Caldwell was managing editor for The Life@Work Journal, a Christian business magazine based in Fayetteville, before leaving that job last year to work as editorial director for Walker Creative Inc., a graphic-design and custom-publishing firm in Fayetteville.

The D-G also announced that Jennifer Cook had been promoted from assistant city editor to deputy city editor.
