West Mountain Opens But Not Brewing Yet

After three years of renovations and a variety of problems including a small fire, West Mountain Brewing Co. opened Dec. 20 on the downtown Fayetteville square.

John Schmuecker, who also owns Tiny Tim’s Pizza next door, said he currently has 12 pre-brewed beers on draft, but he plans to start making his own beer at the location by summer. At that time, he will begin serving six of his micro-brewed beers along with six other draft beers.

Diners at West Mountain can order pizza from Tiny Tim’s or they can order from a menu that will be specific to the brewery.

“It’s basically a great big Tiny Tim’s with it’s own bar and brewery,” Schmuecker said.

Schmuecker’s restaurants now take up more than half of the south side of the historic downtown square.

Diners can walk from the brewery to Tiny Tim’s through a walkway at the back of the building where the restrooms are located.

Schmuecker said he has 170 seats in the two restaurants and he could seat 99 on each side if he needs to.

“One more and I’d have to add another toilet,” he said. “I’ve learned a lot of things.”

Schmuecker said a fire a year ago caused some water damage to the floor, but he has decided the buckling boards make the business look older.

Schmuecker bought Tiny Tim’s from Mel Cranston on Jan. 1, 1996. He had been working for Cranston since Jan. 1, 1985.

The West Mountain building previously housed two retail stores, Doodle Bugs and The Southern Gentleman.
