Donrey Media Group, named for its late founder Donald W. Reynolds, was renamed Stephens Media Group on Jan. 14. The change came almost nine years after its purchase by the Stephens Group Inc. of Little Rock.

Las Vegas-based Stephens Media publishes 21 newspapers in eight states, including three daily papers and nine weeklies in Arkansas.

The new name reflects the Stephens family’s “commitment to excellence,” said Sherman Frederick, president and CEO of Stephens Media Group.

Reynolds founded Donrey Media Group in 1940 with the purchase of the Okmulgee Daily Times in Oklahoma and the Southwest Times Record in Fort Smith. In 1954, Reynolds established the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, a philanthropic foundation that has benefited building projects on many college campuses in Arkansas, including the University of Arkansas Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

In Arkansas, Stephens publishes The Morning News at Springdale and the Pine Bluff Commercial, as well as the Southwest Times Record.
