On Jan. 8, Trans States Airlines/AmericanConnection plans to restore two flights each weekday from the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport to St. Louis that were temporarily canceled in August so two airplanes could be repainted.

The Sept. 11 terrorism delayed getting those flights back on the schedule, said Scott Van Laningham, executive director of XNA.

The airplanes were being repainted to include the logo of AmericanConnection, which is the regional carrier for the company that resulted from the merger of American Airlines and TransWorld Airlines. The flights previously were operated by TransWorld Express.

In both cases, Trans States Airlines is the company that operated the regional carrier that served XNA in Highfill.

AmericanConnection will use Jetstream-41 aircraft, each of which can accommodate 30 passengers. The new flights will depart from XNA at 5:32 a.m. and 12:09 p.m. five days a week. The airline’s other three flights to its hub in St. Louis leave daily at 7:54 a.m., 10:47 a.m., 1:28 p.m. and 4:35 p.m.

The Dec. 18 announcement was good news.

Three of the total 46 round-trip flights leaving XNA were canceled permanently in the wake of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.
