Following recent news that the Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation had boosted its endowment total to 22 funds totaling more than $1 million, the foundation awarded seven grants totaling $41,900 to local nonprofit organizations.

NWACF, which serves as the lead public foundation operated in connection with CommunityCare Foundation Inc. of Springdale, included in this round of funding its first grant in Madison County. That was a $6,000 gift to Huntsville High School to provide training for 40 emergency response team students.

NWACF was founded in 1998 as the Community Foundation of Bentonville/Bella Vista. In November 1999, its purpose was expanded to include all of Northwest Arkansas as the lead public foundation in connection with CommunityCare.

All of the grants were made from the Northwest Arkansas Medical Center Auxiliary Grants Committee, which oversees the NWACF’s donor-advised fund.

Here’s a breakdown of the Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation’s latest grants to local nonprofit organizations.

• $10,000 — John Powell Senior Center to support the renovation of the building. Grant will be payable when the center has raised the budgeted balance of $63,000 for the project.

• $7,700 — Community Based Instruction program.

• $6,000 — Huntsville High School to provide training for 40 emergency response team students through a partnership with the American Red Cross.

• $6,000 — Washington County Teen Court for travel expenses for six people to attend the national Youth Court conference.
