In the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Webster University has teamed with the American Society for Industrial Security to launch an online version of its graduate degree in “organizational and business security management.”

The new, 36-credit hour program is adapted from the current ASIS/Webster campus-based degree program that began in 1986 and has more than 400 graduates worldwide. It is offered at nine of Webster’s domestic extended campuses and three military centers. Based in St. Louis, Webster University has more than 60 campuses around the world, including one in Fayetteville.

The curriculum for the new program includes required courses on asset protection, information security, legal and ethical issues and emergency planning. A security overview course developed by ASIS and at least 12 elective credits from Webster’s MBA program offerings are also required for the degree.

“We’ve been doing this for some time,” said Louis B. Jones, director of Webster’s Fayetteville campus. “What’s new is the online division.”

Instructors for the courses will be from Webster’s worldwide faculty pool and possess significant professional credentials as security managers and directors in such organizations as the Department of Defense, Federal Bureau of Investigation and National Security Agency and in such industries as health care, nuclear power and the military.

Registration for the program begins Jan. 1, with the first two courses beginning in March 2002. Prospective students may register at Webster’s Fayetteville campus, 3448 N. College Ave., or online at www.webster.edu.
