The store’s name will remain Mercantile for the time being. Mercantile has a full-line lunch and breakfast restaurant. Faulkner said the store has its own secret breading recipe for its chicken.

NOARK Girl Scouts Council on Oct. 15 purchased a building permit valued at $698,000 for its future home.

The organization has been located in Springdale for almost 20 years, but will move to its new home in Fayetteville next spring.

Marinoni Construction Co. is building the two-story, 5,898-SF building on the corner of Park Oaks Drive and Joyce Boulevard about a half-mile east of College Avenue. Its new address will be 2080 Joyce Blvd.

Susan Hartman, director of development for NOARK Girl Scouts, said the new building should be ready for occupancy by mid-April, “depending on how furry the caterpillars get.” There was a groundbreaking ceremony held Oct. 31.

Hartman said the existing facility is less than 2,000 SF.

When she came to the group five years ago there was a staff of five on hand, but it has grown to 12 since then. The new site will have a meeting room on each level and will be handicapped accessible.

There are about 4,700 girls and 1,600 volunteers involved in NOARK Girl Scouts.

Troops will now be able to purchase uniforms and badges on site instead of ordering them.
