After two years, Georgia’s Gyros closed its Fayetteville restaurant on Nov. 10.

But Mark Rogers, president of Georgia’s Gyros, said negotiations are currently under way to sell the Fayetteville eatery as the company’s first locally owned franchise. Since it opened in August 1999, the restaurant was owned by the corporation, which is based in Pulaski County.

“We had a management problem there,” Rogers said. “We’ve just closed it temporarily until we can figure out what to do.”

Georgia’s closed its Sherwood restaurant in October 2000 and plans to move that one to Little Rock in the spring. The company now has one restaurant and a catering business, both of which are based in North Little Rock.

The Fayetteville restaurant was in a 3,000-SF space in The Laundry Building on West Avenue between Dickson and Watson streets. The restaurant could seat 165 diners. It featured Greek food such as gyro sandwiches and a 30-foot-long full bar made with the building’s original bricks, which date to the 1920s.
