With the opening of Animal Emergency Clinic of Northwest Arkansas, area pet owners now have evening and nighttime emergency service for their small animals. Dr. Curt Campbell of All Pets Animal Hospital is president of the board of directors for the clinic.

“It’s a better way to care for our patients,” Campbell said. Often, he said, vets will meet the patient and owner alone at the clinic during an emergency. But the Animal Emergency Clinic offers a complete staff with a vet, technicians and assistants.

More than 20 veterinarian clinics and 33 doctors in Washington and Benton counties will refer all of their after-hours emergencies to the new office, but any pet owner is welcome to use the clinic.

Campbell said the board expects to average more than 48 emergencies per week.

Located off Interstate 540 in Springdale, the clinic is staffed by full-time veterinarian Carol Getty, formerly of Crossover Veterinary Clinic. Initially, shareholders will take turns covering shifts during Getty’s days off. Campbell said the board will probably hire another full-time vet after the first year of operation.

Undisclosed start-up costs for the new business were covered by the shareholders without borrowing money, Campbell said. The office is equipped with a lab, radiology services and an operating room.
