Jimmy Chen opened Tokyo Sushi & Grill on Oct. 12 at 1210 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale.

He said business went well the first week and was already starting to pick up in the second week.

“I’m trying to educate them and tell them it’s not all scary,” Chen said of Springdale residents and sushi.

Chen said he offers cooked sushi dishes for people who are leery of eating raw fish.

The fish he serves is flown in by air cargo every four days, either fresh or frozen. Lunch prices at Tokyo Sushi & Grill range from $5-7, and dinner entrées cost $6-10.

Chen, who is originally from Taiwan, has lived in Northwest Arkansas for the past 20 years. He also owns Taiwan Chinese Restaurant in Fayetteville and Tokyo Steak House in Conway. He owned Jade China, a Springdale restaurant, for nine years before selling it in 1997.

Tokyo Sushi & Grill is open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner.
