Five years after launching a virtual storefront at www.joyshoppe.com, Wendy Campbell opened the doors to the physical version of her dance-supply store. The Joy Shoppe in Springdale stocks provisions for religious and marching band performances.
Campbell filled The Joy Shoppe with an inventory similar to that of her Internet store, including batons, streamers, tambourines, religious banners and performance clothing.
The store also sells books and videos about religious dances.
Online, the store has received about 40,000 hits since it opened in 1996. She fills more than 100 Internet orders per month.
Campbell also uses the 1,600-SF store to teach flag-twirling and religious-dance lessons.
Trained in modern, theatrical and jazz dance, Campbell said sacred dances are popular in Northwest Arkansas. She works primarily with Christian and Judaic followers.
The classes cost $45 for each three-month session.
