Council Considers Possible Baum Stadium Neighbors

If all goes well at the Fayetteville City Council meeting Oct. 16, some overnight travelers may get a free view — albeit from the very cheap seats — of future Razorback baseball games.

The council will be considering the approval of two hotels, a restaurant and possibly a 500-unit apartment complex in south Fayetteville near the University of Arkansas’ baseball and track facilities.

The planned development is a 42-acre tract on Beechwood Avenue with the road splitting the property in half. It will be just a few hundred yards from the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center and Baum Stadium. Construction could start in the first half of 2002.

Tom Broyles of Merrill Lynch and Ellis Business Consultants are partnering on the project, which has already been approved by the Fayetteville Planning Commission.
